Two weeks ago, the bustle of Nairobi city was emptied into Mombasa road. Families packed up for the beach to enjoy the sun, sand and sea food. Given the hefty expenses incurred over Easter, it is quite normal to look for a significantly cheaper holiday. Zip lining is definitely the activity to engage in to avoid digging deep into your wallet on Labour Day.

  1. Limuru Zip Line

The Dam Redhill

Easily accessible by public means, The Dam Redhill on Limuru Road is a 15km journey from the city centre! Besides zip lining, you can also do boating and sport fishing. Carry your bikes for the 20km track that you can circle around. The floating restaurant is a romantic setup with a local menu. There is a picnic ground should you opt to pack lunch. Built and designed with kids in mind, needless to say you’ll have happy children at the end of the day.

  1. Kereita Zip Line

At 70km from Nairobi near Kijabe town, all you’ll need is to pack lunch and water and fuel the car halfway. Kereita Forest is at the tip of Aberdare Ranges with an incredible nature trail. The 5-hour walk leads through caves and water falls to the beginning of the 750-metre zip line. Zip lining 80m above this indigenous forest for 45 minutes is definitely the epitome of all nature lovers. Other activities include archery, mountain riding and paint balling.

  1. Machakos Zip Line

The popular Machakos People’s Park is a short 1-hour drive away from the city. Every Friday to Sunday, the 300-metre long zip line is operated at affordable rates. There are various picnic tables around the park so don’t forget your cutlery and Masai blankets.

  1. Tana River Zip Line

On your way Nyeri, you’ll see a signboard  for Sagana after an hour’s drive from Nairobi. You can swoosh across the Tana River if the rain is not too heavy. Besides Sagana camp being popular for white water rafting, other activities include guided walks and mountain riding.

Apart from zip lining, what other activities can Nairobians do for a fun-filled day at pocket friendly rates? Check out our Infographics on Pinterest or share with us your favourite budget destinations.
